Top tips for toy storage

MyStore Team

TOYS…Nobody needs to start their day by treading on an incredibly painful piece of Lego left at the foot of the stairs. I would rather not be rudely awakened by my daughter’s Furby in the middle of the night. Or be attacked by my son’s Despicable Me Fart Blaster aka “best toy ever!”, oh yes what could possibly be better than giving a kid a gun-shaped machine that farts? Then there is the GIGANTIC cuddly toy won at a fete, ours is George the teddy bear. Not a day will pass where you don’t have to move it out of the way or in my case just physically attack it! Sorry George.

Whatever your reason for needing to hide away the kids toys, games and everything in between is completely 100% justifiable. You have my full support! I’ve come up with a list (yes, another one) of my top tips on how to store your children’s things so they look as good as the day you wished you’d never bought them.

Top 10 Tips

  1. When it comes to hand-me-downs, it’s important to check they are dry before placing them in long term storage.
  2. Use unscented detergent to keep away unwanted bugs or rodents.
  3. Place all clothes in a plastic bin with a lid. Avoid vacuum-sealed storage bags, as they might lead to mould or mildew.
  4. Disinfect toys with a simple bleach/water solution.
  5. Place hard toys in a small mesh bag and run through the dishwasher.
  6. Many stuffed toys can be machine washed and dried on low or out in the sun.
  7. Look for cracks in toys where your baby might have chewed and throw them out if you see any damage.
  8. Some stuffed toys can’t go in the washing machine. Put them in a plastic bag in your freezer for 24 hours to sanitise.
  9. If you need to store high chairs, cribs, or swings, use plastic bins if you can. Otherwise, pack them away in sturdy boxes.
  10. A final piece of advice is to take a picture of how items (especially cribs) look before you take them apart. Pictures are worth 1000 words.

I hope these tips and ideas really help you to tackle that growing pile of children’s toys in your home, a sight many parents are all too familiar with!
