Self Storage Case Study: Oxfordshire charity Homes4all seek our shelter

Homes4allOxfordshire is a registered charity whose primary goal is to alleviate the misery of homelessness by offering practical and emotional support to homeless individuals throughout Oxfordshire. The assistance they offer is extremely person-centred; holistic, individualised and creatively responsive.

The trustees of Homes4All were inspired to start their organisation after recognising that homelessness in Oxfordshire had reached crisis levels. There are many wonderful services and agencies that seek to provide support for the homeless, but they simply have not got the resources to cope.

A helping hand

Although Homes4all were operating for a number of months prior, their official launch was in June 2018. Currently, they are out on the streets of Oxford on a daily basis engaging with rough sleepers and those in temporary accommodation; taking time to learn their stories and identify ways that they can help practically and emotionally. They then respond appropriately, giving out donations of clothing and equipment; acting as brokers to connect people up with support agencies, and occasionally advocating on their behalf. They have also set up a homeless football team, which trains regularly and provides meaningful and therapeutic recreational activity. On a strategic level, they are actively exploring opportunities for opening a drop-in cafe facility for the homeless in Oxford and are planning a proposal for female-only, emergency support accommodation.

An increasing need for storage

The large amount of donated items the charity receive on an continual basis, such as clothing, tents, rucksacks and sleeping bags, all need to be housed somewhere and nobody within the trust had the space to store it. Moreover, they needed to find somewhere which could be accessed easily and readily, as they have a number of volunteers who kindly help out.

So whilst Homes4all seek to provide sanctuary and shelter for the homeless throughout Oxfordshire, MyStore in Witney are proud to be able to assist them with the shelter and storage that they so desperately needed for their numerous donations.

“MyStore Self Storage was perfect for us because of its location; 24hour, every day access, and its safety features, which mean that it offers complete peace of mind that our volunteers as well as the items themselves are safe and secure. Moreover, the storage space is very clean and the prices charged very reasonable. For these reasons – and the added bonus that the staff are very helpful – we have continued using MyStore Self Storage as we regularly receive donated items on an ongoing basis from individuals and businesses.” Liz Edwards, Homes4allOxfordshire Trustee
