With a huge ranges of Halloween goodies in stores and online, it’s easy to spend a fortune, especially if you’re having a party… so here are a few tips to make this Halloween ‘Spooktacular’ without breaking the bank.
- Don’t buy costumes – with a bit of creativity, you can make your own!
- Invest in some face paints (Snazaroo are one of the best, and they’ll last for the next kids party!) dig out some old/out-grown clothes, rip them up a bit; with some goulish face paint, you’ve made a zombie costume!
~ Add some accessories from a pound shop, red clothes and face paint and you’ve made a little devil!
~ Or the old classic of a ghost costume with an old sheet! (remember to cut some holes for eyes, with a bit of black face paint around them for extra effect – this will ensure your little ghost can see!)
- Create your own decorations – Get inspired by seeing what is on offer in shops, then make them yourself! Cut up strips of orange and black paper, link together to make Halloween paper chains. Stick up a black balloon in a corner of a room, with some streamers for legs and you’ve made yourself a huge spider! Use orange tissue paper and PVA glue on inflated balloons to make 3D pumpkin decorations! Print or draw different sized pumpkin shapes, colour or decorate, and attach to ribbon or string to make your own bunting. And of course – carve some pumpkins! Head to Millets Farm for our local pumpkin patch, not only can you pick your own but it’s a fabulous backdrop for a Halloween photo shoot!
Make your own spooky snacks! Turn hotdog sausages into severed fingers with some creative knife work and a bit of ketchup! Look online for some creepy cupcake inspiration. Use gingerbread man cutters and white icing to make skeleton biscuits! Cut strips of ready-made puff pastry and turn sausages or jalapeno peppers into mummies! Whip up some rice crispy cake mix, colour with food dye and make almost anything your Halloween heart desires.
And never forget that you can easily and affordably store your seasonal kit at MyStore self-storage. Why not take up one of our smallest rooms and keep all your decorations in one place? They are also the perfect size to hide all your Christmas presents from inquisitive small people!
